I’ve attended for my own GP appointments as well as appointments for my daughter, and every visit has been a great experience. Most of the time I have been able to get a same-day appointment, which was very important to me with children. I have seen both Dr Newman, who was so lovely, knowledgeable, and informative, always taking the time to listen and explain everything clearly, and Dr Kate Bolwell, who was very gentle and reassuring with my daughter and made the whole experience of toddler vaccinations far less daunting and even enjoyable. I can’t commend them enough for how wonderful they both were. An excellent practice with exceptional doctors.

My partner called in the morning, and just an hour later, we had an appointment for our six-year-old son, who has type one diabetes. We had originally contacted our regular doctor's office, only to be told that the next available appointment wouldn't be until New Year's Eve, which was frankly unacceptable given my son's high temperature and persistent cough. Upon arriving at Haven Medical, we were greeted by a friendly and helpful staff member at the front desk, which immediately put us at ease. The doctor who examined our son was thorough and attentive, taking the time to ensure that all our concerns were addressed. She provided a prescription for antibiotics and never rushed through the appointment, making sure we felt comfortable and informed. The entire process was smooth, and we were seen just five minutes before our scheduled time, which was impressive. I can't recommend Haven Medical enough; the quality of service we received was outstanding. We will definitely be returning for future healthcare needs and are more than willing to pay for the excellent care they provide!

Prostate Checks and PSA Testing

Regular prostate checks are a vital part of maintaining men’s health, especially as you age. The prostate can change over time, and early detection of any issues—such as enlargement, inflammation, or signs of cancer—can make a significant difference.

Signs to watch out for:

Blood in urine or semen
Needing to urinate more than usual
A weak urine flow / taking a long time to urinate
Feeling like you haven’t emptied your bladder fully (or being unable to)
Difficulty in starting to urinate

The PSA test (Prostate-Specific Antigen test) is a simple blood test, widely used and a trusted blood test for monitoring prostate health and screening for prostate cancer. It measures the level of PSA, a protein produced by the prostate gland, which can rise due to various conditions—including benign enlargement, inflammation, or prostate cancer.

Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among men in the UK, with over 52,000 new cases each year, making early detection especially important. While an elevated PSA level doesn’t always indicate cancer, it can be an early sign that further investigation is needed.

Male hormone profile: Including testosterone levels.

PSA blood testing: A protein produced by the prostate gland that can aid in the diagnosis of prostate disease and for monitoring response to treatment. (Further information can be provided to discuss the pros and cons of testing)

HbA1c and blood glucose

CRP
